Flagler Guest Professor Brenda Kauffman
09.10.2024We welcome Prof. Dr. Brenda Kauffman to the Philosophical Faculty of Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg as the Flagler Guest Professor for Winter Term 2024/2025. In her teaching and research, Professor Kauffman engages with issues of environmental politics, political economy, and political theory frm North American as well as comparative international frameworks.
Students will be able to profit from expertise in the "American Environmental Politics" seminar offered in American Studies this term. Additionally, Professor Kauffman will be teaching a course on "Democracy in America from the Beginning" in Modern History.

Professional Biography
Brenda Kauffman earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from Auburn University, a master's degree in liberal arts and philosophy from Spring Hill College, a bachelor's in philosophy and religious studies from Georgia State University, and an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from Penn State University. Her areas of specific interest include international education, environmental politics, sustainable and just development, and international political economy.
She has taught a wide range of courses including Environmental Politics, Political Economy, Political Theory, American Government, International Relations, Comparative Politics, African Politics, Conflict Resolutions, Human Rights, Global Health, and Science Fiction and International Politics.
She serves as faculty advisor to the Flagler College Model United Nations Team, Director of the Flagler College FlagSHIP, Program, Director of the Political Science Program, Director of the International Studies Program, and is the current Vice chair of the Faculty Senate.
Before arriving at Flagler in 2010 she taught at Auburn University, the University of South Alabama, and Spring Hill College. She is currently researching the impact of studying abroad on students and the economy and environment of the host nations. She has led study abroad courses to places like Costa Rica, Brazil, the Azores, Spain, Italy, Trinidad, Colombia, Poland, Czechia, and Dominica.
